PersatuanindoNEWS.com - The North Sumatra Regional Police's Drug Investigation Directorate (Dit) has uncovered various cases of drug trafficking networks that have been the target of their operations within a period of 60 days.

Commissioner Pol Yemi Mandagi, the Director of the North Sumatra Regional Police's Drug Investigation Directorate, stated that a total of 23 suspects were apprehended in the drug trafficking cases.

"Among the 23 suspects who were arrested, we seized 47.75 kilograms of crystal meth, 300 kilograms of marijuana, and 9,932 ecstasy pills as evidence," he said on Wednesday (August 16,2023).

Yemi explained that the modus operandi of the drug trafficking networks involved entering through small ports located in the North Sumatra region.

"The crystal meth was sourced from Malaysia and then transported to small ports in North Sumatra using sampans. Eventually, the crystal meth would be shipped to Palembang," he explained.

Yemi further revealed that the marijuana evidence was found in Aceh and would be distributed in Medan City and several other areas.

"Based on the interrogation of the 23 arrested suspects, it was discovered that they used false data to smuggle narcotics," said the former Chief of Police in Deli Serdang.

Yemi added that the confiscated drugs have been destroyed as a decisive measure by the North Sumatra Regional Police to eradicate drug trafficking in the North Sumatra region.

"The 23 suspects will face charges related to narcotics, which carry a penalty of more than 20 years imprisonment, death, or life imprisonment," he concluded.
