PersatuanindoNEWS.com - The Community Service Team of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at the University of Indonesia (UI) provided managerial education for businesses and promoted processed fish products in the Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Dr. Rifelly Dewi Astuti, SE., MM., the Head of the Community Service Team from FEB UI, stated in her statement in Depok on Sunday that the training provided was related to business management, including entrepreneurship, business permits, halal certification, production, marketing and digital marketing, business finance, and household finance.
"The distinctive processed fish products from Belu have the potential to be developed as souvenirs from Belu. The development of these unique products is expected to increase the income of the people in the Belu Regency, thus achieving the goal of improving the local economy," said Rifelly.
She also mentioned that the geographical location of the Belu Regency, which shares a border with Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, presents both opportunities and challenges.
The Belu Regency serves as a transit area for tourists or businessmen traveling from Timor-Leste to Kupang or vice versa. Additionally, the capital of Belu Regency, Atambua, has an airport that operates ATR aircraft to Kupang.
This community service activity was attended by 80 participants, and the training was conducted with eight groups of women who process fishery products from the villages of Jenilu, Kenebibi, and Silawan in the Belu Regency, NTT.
The community service team then prepared training modules and materials involving the entire team at the UI Campus in Depok. The most important stages were the implementation of the training, including pre and post evaluations.
The training was conducted using interactive methods, involving active participation from the participants. During the training sessions, the participants also learned how to design, create social media accounts, and develop promotional content for their products.
After the training, the teams were provided with guidance to apply the knowledge gained in the training, and their business groups were monitored and evaluated to determine the sustainability of the program in the future.
"We encountered challenges regarding the lack of understanding about marketing and the capabilities of the group's human resources in managing their businesses. Currently, the typical processed fish products from Belu are fish floss and dried fish," said Adriana Funan, one of the partners in the community service activity titled "The Movement to Develop Processed Fishery Products as Local Specialties in the Effort to Accelerate the Development of Underdeveloped Areas in the Belu Regency, NTT."
She represented other beneficiaries who felt assisted by the presence of the FEB UI community service team in providing solutions to the problems faced by the community in the area.
"This community service activity does not stop here. Thanks to the collaboration between UI, PT Pertamina, and Pertamina Foundation, in the next program, we will provide assistance in terms of facilities or production equipment," she added.
This community service program is also in line with two of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, namely SDG 1 and 8," said Rr. Ratih Dyah Kusumastuti, Ph.D., another member of the team.
Other members of the community service team include Viverita, Ph.D.; Dr. Ir. Tengku Ezni Balqiah, M.E., MH.; Dr. Dwi Nastiti Danarsari; and Gita Gayatri, Ph.D. Two students from FEB UI, Aththar Athaillah and Gading Vernanda, also participated.
The event consisted of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the Fisheries Department, Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperative Office, Regional Secretariat, and Regional Development Planning Agency of the Belu Regency, NTT.
