PersatuanindoNEWS.com - The Special Criminal Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police apprehended nine suspects for alleged incitement crimes with elements of ethnicity, religion, and race (SARA) on several social media accounts.
Commissioner Ade Safri Simanjuntak, the Director of the Special Criminal Investigation Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, stated that the nine suspects were identified as RK, GR, TH, MM, DWK, AN, GR, WYRP, and MFD, two of whom are minors.
"Two out of the nine suspects are underage," Ade Safri said during a press conference at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Ade Safri explained that the investigation began with a cyber patrol conducted by the investigative team, which discovered several accounts spreading provocative content containing SARA elements.
Subsequently, a physical altercation occurred between different groups of people, which was also uploaded by one of the accounts.
Upon investigation, it was found that the perpetrators involved in the group clash had obtained sharp weapons from one of the accounts that sold them.
"When questioned, the perpetrators admitted that their motive was to gain fame and garner many followers," he added.
